Hostel Recommendations in Europe

Some of my favorite hostels (and least) I've stayed at throughout Europe! Hope this makes some of the hostel search easier for some and steer you away from some of the worst I've stayed at.

Geneva, Switzerland:
Geneva Hostel
2 nights in 6 bed female dorm
~I loved this hostel. It was budget friendly, in a great location, super clean and modern, had lockers with locks as promised, and friendly staff. I love when you get what they say on the website (seems simple I know) and that's what we got!
Would highly recommend.

Warsaw, Poland:
Oki Doki City Hostel Warsaw
1 night in 6 bed mixed dorm
~So much better than I expected. Bathroom situation was bizarre but the rooms were nice and clean. Got everything we'd been promised on the website and that was enough for the one night we were there!
Would recommend.

Prague, Czech Republic:
Old Prague Hostel
2 nights in 6 bed mixed dorm
~Super inexpensive but I wasn't too happy with the security, felt pretty unsafe and the breakfast promised was really not much of a breakfast but all in all very friendly staff made up for it.
Would recommend if you need the cheapest option, but I'm sure there are better options.

Vienna, Austria:
Wombats City Hostel Vienna
2 nights 6 bed mixed dorm ensuite
~Loved this hostel. Felt super secure and very fun atmosphere, we got everything that was promised on the website. Was even traveling with a non-hostel lover who said she'd stay there again.
Would highly recommend.

Budapest, Hungary:
Avenue Hostel
2 nights standard 5 bed apartment ensuite
~We stayed in a private room here so I probably had a bit of a different experience than someone in a mixed dorm. However, I can still vouch for the great location, price, and friendly staff.
Would recommend.

London, England:
Gallery Hyde Park
1 night 24 bed mixed dorm
~This was probably the worst hostel I've ever stayed in. So dirty and un-secure, I felt very unsafe and there was nowhere to put away any of my stuff. Not at all like what the website said.
Would NOT recommend.

Edinburgh, Scotland:
Cowgate Tourist Hostel
2 nights 6 bed mixed dorm
~This hostel wasn't my choice it was chosen by the group tour agency I went with and I hated it. No secure place to leave anything and you could hear everything going on in the hallway the whole night. I definitely wouldn't have chosen it had I known.
Would NOT recommend.

St. Christopher's Inn
1 night 12 bed female dorm
~I only had to stay here very briefly before an early morning flight but I loved it. The staff were all super helpful and the room was clean and comfortable! Also, the most convenient location, right across from Waverly station.
Would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends.

Reykjavik, Iceland:
Hlemmur Square
3 nights 14 bed mixed dorm
~Although we didn't have the best nights sleep here it wasn't because of the hostel! The hostel staff was actually so accommodating they switched our room for us so we could have a better nights sleep! It was everything it said it would be on the website and even better, we loved the lounge area and restaurant downstairs.
Would highly recommend.

Berlin, Germany:
A&O Berlin Mitte
3 nights 6 bed female dorm
~This was another hostel that I didn't choose it was part of the history society trip to Berlin. However, it was really clean and I actually really liked it. The only downfall was I really didn't like the location, nothing was less than a 5 minute walk away and there was no food around.
Would recommend.

Dublin, Ireland:
Isaac's Hostel
1 night in 8 bed mixed dorm
~We had an awful experience here. After having to cancel on short notice because of canceled flights and a huge snowstorm and still getting charged we decided to still try them for a night since everywhere else was booked. Once we got there they reassured us that there were lockers and there were not and I was the only female in a mixed dorm and it made me very uncomfortable (luckily I was with another guy but he was uncomfortable with it as well).
Would NOT recommend.

Generator Hostel
2 nights, 1 in 6 bed mixed dorm, one in private room
~We loved this hostel. The staff was SO accommodating and everything was very clean and modern. The best part was that they had everything the website said they would and more!
Would highly recommend.

Stockholm, Sweden:
Interhostel
4 nights standard 14 bed mixed dorm
~We had a really bad experience here. The staff was not receptive to our concerns multiple times about being two small girls with men that were over the age of 30 being the only others in our room. We ended up having to switch to a private room but still hated the hostel. We are pretty sure there was a woman living in the bathroom and a lot of other much older people who just hang around the kitchen area the whole time. Very uncomfortable vibe.
Would NOT recommend.

Copenhagen, Denmark:
Danhostel Copenhagen City
3 nights 10 bed mixed dorm ensuite
~Loved this hostel! It is the largest in Europe and it feels like a hotel! Friendliest staff as well. I ended up having a last minute phone interview one day and I asked the staff if there was a quiet place to stay and they gave me their meeting room. So clean and comfortable. And they did a good job actually mixing the mixed dorms so we were never uncomfortable.
Would highly recommend.

Amsterdam, Netherlands:
Youth Hostel Meetingpoint
3 nights 8 bed mixed dorm
~Not a totally bad experience here. It was clean enough and served it's purpose. Definitely had great security. they had a cat which we were both allergic to so we found it weird that they didn't advertise that or ask if we were okay with it. All in all not terrible but pretty expensive for what you get.
Would recommend if you need the most central location.

Paris, France:
Auberge Internationale des Jeunes
3 nights basic 3 bed mixed dorm
~Really decent hostel for the price! It was so affordable and clean and comfortable. Interesting set-up but they had a great breakfast for free and the location was so nice.
Would recommend.
