One thing I struggle with most is constantly getting sick after exhausting weeks of traveling, or worse, getting sick while traveling. Especially this time of year when the weather is constantly changing and effecting our health. I've learned a few techniques that I now always stick to no matter what when travel which may seem simple but will help in the long run.
I ALWAYS try to get enough sleep. If I know there's an early morning the next day I don't go out the night before, I try to catch up on sleep en route to places either on the bus, train, or plane, and if I haven't gotten sufficient sleep for a couple of days I try to work in a nap. Otherwise I know I will not get through the trip healthily. Another thing I've started doing is religiously taking vitamins. I take a multivitamin with iron every morning and two chewable vitamin c tablets per day. On top of that I carry emergen-c or some other type of immune support supplement with me everywhere.
That leads us to the most important thing--water. Not staying hydrated is always a sure fire way for me to get sick quickly. I always keep my reusable bottle with me when traveling as well so I don't have to keep buying new bottles in places. I also have a clip on hand sanitizer on my purse or backpack all the time so when on public transport I can always keep my hands clean. For the times when I can't avoid it, I carry plenty of packs of travel tissues and throat lozenges. My favorite new discovery is Vicks vaporub. Works like a charm to stop snoring when you're congested, something you and everyone in your hostel will be thankful for!
While traveling it can be so hard to not get sick. Being in confined spaces with strangers so often, running low on sleep, and getting all of your energy from the cheapest food sources you can find are not conducive to great health but as long as you stay on top of it and are aware of you vulnerability it won't hold you back! Here are some of my favorite products that can hopefully help you the next time you're worried you might get sick while traveling.

I'm not one to shy away from putting on my hood if it'll keep me warmer! |
