Travel Diaries: Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Admittedly, my favorite new city I've been to in Europe is Amsterdam! There was so much to do and see and eat in this incredible city. It was so much larger than I imagined so there were so many places to wander around and explore, we had such a great 2 and a half days. We got there and immediately got started on exploring because we had a lot of things we wanted to do so we didn't want to miss anything. Our hostel was in such a convenient spot right near the central station and with so many food options (that were affordable) all around us.

We started our trip by heading to the famous Bloemenmarkt, the market that's entirely on boats and filled with tulips. We had a great time exploring and wishing we could buy some. Since we got to the city in the afternoon we didn't do much else the first day other than wander down many alleys and look for a place to eat. We were enchanted by the city that very first day. We finally were getting some lovely spring weather and it came at the perfect time. We saw Dam Square and a big pair of clogs and were not disappointed by their grocery store Albert Heijn!

The next day we were determined to make our way out to Albert Cuyp market even though it was raining. It was SO worth it. I think this was a main highlight for us for the whole trip. There were so many food stands and souvenir places and it felt less touristy than being in the middle of Amsterdam. It was definitely worth the few hours we took to wander around. We even got the famous Stroopwaffles from the market! It was an amazing experience and one I would recommend to anyone planning a trip to Amsterdam.

The following day my cousin finally arrived in the city so we planned the bulk of our major sightseeing for that day! It was a busy day but not overwhelming, we fit everything in  that we wanted to do plus some. First on the agenda was heading over to museum square where the Van Gogh and Rijks museum are. While we didn't want to spend the money on them (they're extremely expensive for museums) we did want to see the museums and get a picture with the famous Iamsterdam sign.

After getting pictures from behind the sign (pro tip to avoid all the tourists in front of it) we were off to the Jordaan district. We stopped at the cutest cafe ever called George's, we spent a leisurely lunch catching up and enjoying the atmosphere. We then took photos around the picturesque canals in the Jordaan district and passed by Anne Frank house (which unfortunately was sold out three months in advance when we tried to book). It was a great last day in a city I would definitely go back to. I hope you enjoy the pictures from our trip and that it inspires you to take a trip.
