As part of the three week spring break I get at the Univeristy of Bristol, my next stop after Stockholm was Copenhagen. While we had such a great time in Copenhagen and there was definitely more to do than in Stockholm, it was unbearably cold. Especially considering it was the last week of March and technically already Spring we were not prepared for it. After the initial shock of the cold we had a great time exploring the city in three days.
Our hostel, Danhostel Copenhagen, is the biggest hostel in Europe! We weren’t expecting much after our terrible Stockholm hostel experience so we were very pleasantly surprised. The hostel felt like a hotel (other than the fact that we were staying in one of the dorm rooms) and it was really a great hostel experience. Would highly recommend to anyone considering staying in Copenhagen!
We started our trip with panoramic city views after climbing The Round Tower. I would highly recommend doing this if you’re in Copenhagen, it’s super cheap and a good first introduction to the city. After freezing at the top of the tower we wandered around the main shopping streets looking for the most affordable food we could find. This was one problem we had with Copenhagen- it was nearly impossible to find a decent meal at a reasonable price. We end d up getting a lot of fast food and taking it back to our hostel just because there was nothing else in our price range.
The next day we walked past Tivoli to take pictures (because it was not in our budget to go in!) and saw the palaces and the famous Little Mermaid statue. It was the coldest day we had there so we tried not to stay out too long. We saved the famous brunch spot, Mad & Kaffe, and picturesque Nyhavn for our last day in the city because it was supposed to be the warmest day. While it was not warm by our standards, it was still an incredible day. We wrapped up the trip feeling like we really saw all that we wanted to see in Copenhagen. Even though it wasn’t the most friendly in our budget place to be, it was worth it for the beauty! Next stop on our trip is Brussels... stay tuned!
